Chris Bertoia is the Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator with the Western Mustangs football program, 2012 will be Coach Bertoia’s fourth season with the program.  Coach Bertoia had 7 of his former O-Line players at 2012 CFL training camps.   A graduate of the University of Waterloo, where he majored in Sociology with a minor in legal studies, Bertoia was a four-year starter for the Warriors football team, earning OUA all-star honours as an offensive tackle. Bertoia played in four consecutive Yates Cup Championships, winning the Yates Cup twice in 1997 and 1999. During the Summer of 2012 Coach Bertoia was the Head Coach of the Varsity London Jr. Mustangs of the OVFL who went 11-0 in winning the provincial championship.  He was also the Offensive Coordinator for Team Ontario in the 2012 Canada Cup where Team Ontario won the bronze medal.  Bertoia previously coached Team Ontario at the 2010 Canada Cup in Wolfville, N.S.  Prior to his arrival at Western in January, 2009, Bertoia was the full-time assistant coach at St. Francis Xavier University for four and a half years, serving as both the offensive and defensive line coach, recruiting coordinator and strength and conditioning coach.  With the X-Men, Bertoia helped to coach the team to the Jewett Cup AUS conference championship game three out of four years. Three of the offensive linemen and one defensive lineman he coached at St. FX were drafted into the CFL. At the club level, Bertoia served as the Offensive Line Coach for the Canadian Junior Football League’s London Beefeaters (2002-2004) and was the Offensive Line Coach at London’s Catholic Central High School (2000-2003). Coach Bertoia is passionate about the game, and has a great rapport with the players.  Chris and his wife Tracie reside in London, Ont. with their two young children Johnathan and Emma.
