LONDON, Ont. – Western’s ace pitcher, Jordan Townshend (London, ON) has been named Pioneer Petroleums OUA Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 18, 2009.
The Mustang left-hander was dominant last Friday night in Game 1 of the OUA championship series, tossing a complete-game two-hit shutout against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
Townshend walked four and struck out a career-high 15 during Western’s 6-0 win. He threw an astounding 152 pitches (98 for strikes) to go the distance, improving to 5-1 on the year.
In seven starts in 2009, Townshend posted a league-best 1.00 ERA (6 ER in 54 IP) while tallying 59 strikeouts. Named an OUA all-star (second team) for the first time this year, the left-hander has enjoyed an impressive four-year career with the ‘Stangs, posting a 1.40 ERA overall (22 ER in 141 1/3 IP).
