Oct. 24: Western 2 Guelph 1 / Oct. 25: York 3 Western 0
LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs earned a much-needed win on Oct. 24 2-1 over Guelph but lost 3-0 to York the next day - but still managed to sneak into the post-season with some help from other squads.
The Brock Badgers picked up their second win of the season on Oct. 25, eliminating the Laurier Golden Hawks from the playoffs and pushing Western into the post-season as the OUA West's No. 6 team.
York, ranked No. 2 in Canada was dominant at TD Waterhouse Stadium, showing why they have only surreendered eight goals on the season with a dominating performance.
Freshman Vince Caminiti (London, Ont.) hit the crossbar in the opening minute for the Mustangs on a play which would have completely changed the complexion of the game, but instead it was York which struck first when Jarek Whiteman (Brampton, Ont.) opened the scoring just a minute into the second half.
Dominic Antonini scored the insurance goal coming in on the off-wing uncontested, catching Western's defence off guard and goalie Andrew Murdoch off his line, while Adrian Pena scored in the 90th minute with Western pushing all out for the attack.
The Mustangs finish 4-6-4 and in sixth place - they will travel to play Waterloo on Oct. 28 in the OUA quarter-final at 3:30 p.m. Western tied Waterloo 0-0 and 2-2 in both previous meetings this season.
