Top 10 of 2009: The Honourable Mentions - Mustangs in the Pros

Dec. 18: Hockey players Sal Peralta, Jeff Martens, women's basketball player Bess Lennox and men's basketball player Brad Smith go pro after Western

LONDON, Ont. - Men's basketball player Brad Smith is leading his men's basketball division in scoring in England, Bess Lennox has played for two pro teams in Europe and Australia, and hockey players Sal Peralta and Jeff Martens have landed in the ECHL after graduating from Western following the 2008-09 seasons.

Smith (Innisfill, Ont.) is currently leading the Kent Crusaders (http://www.kentcrusaders.co.uk) and English Basketball League (EBL) in scoring. Western men's basketball's all-time leading scorer, Smith is the English league team's one import player this season. His contract is for eight months and ends in April, 2010.

Lennox (Ottawa) is currently playing professionally in Switzerland after starting her pro career with the Southwest Slammers based out of Bunbury, Australia, on the country's west coast. She plans to return to Australia after the European season. The all-time rebounding leader in Western history, Lennox was a major force behind Western's resurgence as a top OUA women's basketball school.

Martens (Maple Ridge, B.C.) has 17 points with the Columbus Cottonmouths (SPHL) and was a multi-talented with Western's run to the CIS championship game in 2008-09 in Thunder Bay, Ont. Peralta, a five-year forward with the Mustangs from Leamington, Ont., is currently playing with the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL and has four goals and 11 assists (15 points) after starting season with Quad City Mallards and being signed by the Bakersfield Condors.
