LONDON, Ont. - Toronto Blue Jays President and CEO Paul Beeston will be the keynote speaker at  the third annual Western Mustangs Scholarship Breakfast on Tuesday March 23, 2010, beginning at 7 a.m. at the Best Western Lamplighter Inn in London, Ont.

Beeston, a graduate of Huron University College at The University of Western Ontario, will speak at the event which has a mission to help raise funds for scholarships for student-athletes.

Support for the breakfast - through sponsorship or the purchase of a ticket - can provide an outstanding young student-athlete the opportunity to pursue an education at Western while competing at the highest level in intercollegiate athletics.

Western's goal is to raise $4-million dollars to support athletic scholarships which will support student-athletes by creating the opportunity for them to receive $3,500 over four years. This support enables Western to recruit the best and brightest student-athletes in Canada. 

"While all students face rising tuition costs, student-athletes at Western have added expenses associated with competition and, coupled with the intense time commitment of training, this often prevents student-athletes from being able to secure part-time jobs," said Therese Quigley, director of sports and recreation services at Western.

"Western’s student-athletes serve as role models for youth and as ambassadors for The University of Western Ontario. We need your help to continue to build strong, competitive teams, and support for this breakfast will assist with this mission."

Proceeds from the 2010 Western Mustangs Scholarship Breakfast will be invested into the Western Mustangs student-athlete scholarship program. Tickets are $75 a person, or a table of 10 for $700. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
