Western Mustangs Women's Hockey Year in Review

Ellie Seedhouse was named a first team all-star.

LONDON, Ont. - It was a disappointing finish to the season for Western Mustangs Women's hockey team. After fighting tooth and nail all-season to get into the playoffs they fell just short in the final weekend of regular season play. Their eighth place finish with 25 points was tied with Brock and was just one point behind the Windsor Lancers, who finished the season with 26 points and snuck into the last seed in the OUA playoffs.

Finishing with a 10-12-5 record in the regular season brought a lot of ups and downs for the team marred by winning and losing streaks throughout the year. The ultimate un-doing of the Mustangs came as they lost a total of 10 one-goal games this season.

Despite just narrowly falling short of the post-season there was a great deal of success had on the team. Ellie Seedhouse (Whitby, Ont.) finished in third place in league scoring in the regular season with 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists). Seedhouse also got recognition as a first team all-star in the OUA.

Captain Veronica Johnston (Oshawa, Ont.) also gained individual recognition this season as she was a nominee for the Marion Hillard award, given to student-athletes for outstanding achievement in hockey, academics and community involvement.

The Mustangs expect a good core of their team back for next season with the only players graduating on seniors night this season being their captain Veronica Johnston as well as Kaley Sisler (Arkona, Ont.).
