LONDON, Ont. –
Conor Trainor (Vancouver, B.C.), a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, along with the Canadian Men’s 7s rugby team won the Bowl Championship held in Hong Kong Mar. 28.
The Bowl Championship is the highest tournament besides the world cup according to Rugby Canada. Canada was in the lead throughout the entire match, with the only try in the second half scored by Mustangs own Conor Trainor.
After playing for the under 20 team in the 2008/09 season, Trainor achieved a spot in the starting line up at the Bowl in Hong Kong.
Trainor fell in love with the sport at age 15, “I fell in love with the speed and competitiveness.” Says Trainor, “I first played sevens in grade 12 where we won a provincial tournament.”
Since this big win in grade 12, the Vancouver native has strived for playing with the Canadian Men’s sevens, particularly in the Dubai tournament. A very modest Trainor expressed his surprise in making the team this year, but sees that the coach is looking for a younger and stronger team with the introduction of the sport in the 2016 Olympics.
