Kelly Russell, a former Western Mustang, is currently representing Western on the world stage at the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup in England. Russell, who won the CIS player of the year award during her time at Western, contributed the lone try for team Canada during their game on Aug. 25 against France.
Despite Russell's efforts, France took the game 23-8, eliminating Canada from the final four contenders. Team Canada, which began the tournament strong with 37-10 win over Scotland and a 40-10 win over Sweden, will now be facing Scotland for a fifth place finish on Sept. 1.
Kelly Russell's younger sister and fellow Mustang,
Laura Russell is also a member of Canada's World Cup team although she did not make the trip to England to compete - instead she was there cheering her sister on, along with other family members, as a fan.
