LONDON, Ont. – The Western Mustangs faced the Guelph Gryphons this afternoon at TD Waterhouse Stadium. The Gryphons took the game 4-0 putting the Mustangs at 5-4-4 on the season.
Haris Cekic scored twice for the Western Mustangs, but could not match Guelph Gryphon and OUA West leading-scorer Robert Murphy’s four goals on the day.
Cekic scored first for the Mustangs within the first 10 minutes of the match. Murphy followed up with a goal of his own not three minutes later.

Chris Brown made it 2-1 Western on a header kept inbounds by
Dominic Bell halfway through the first.
Again, Guelph’s Murphy came back to tie up the game three minutes later, earning his second goal of the game. He was able to break free of Western’s defense and beat veteran goalkeeper
Andrew Murdoch.
#Paul D’Amario# made an overlapping fullback run the length of the park, but was denied a scoring opportunity when his shot was blocked at the top of the box.
At half, the match was tied 2-2.
Cekic’s second goal of the game and Western’s only goal of the second half came on a free kick. Guelph goalkeeper Chad Paparoni was not able to get to the ball and Western took the lead 3-2.
Murdoch made some sensational saves to his team in the game, but Guelph overpowered the frustrated Mustangs and scored two more goals.
Guelph tied the game at the 67th minute. Murphy was able to obtain possession on an attempt by Bell to clear the ball in a scramble in front of the net.
Murphy shot his fourth and the game-winning goal from 25-yards out. Western could not score in the remaining 10 minutes and Guelph took the game 4-0.
The Mustangs travel to Waterloo on Sunday, Oct 16 and return home on Saturday, Oct. 22 to face UOIT.
