WINDSOR, Ont. – The Western Mustangs fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Windsor Lancers on Thurs. Jan. 26 at Windsor Arena.
Steve Reese notched the only Mustangs goal while D.J. Turner scored the Lancers’ regulation goal.
Windsor capitalized on a powerplay opportunity near the midway point of the first frame. Western countered during the second period to tie the game at one apiece. Overtime solved nothing as the Mustangs had no shots on net and the Lancers mustered two that were turned aside by netminder Alain Valiquette.
Valiquette backed the Mustangs with 30 saves on the night, but was beat by Evan Stibbard on the last round of the shootout.
With a game at hand, the Mustangs remains seven points ahead of second place Lakehead in the OUA West. Western has tomorrow off, meanwhile Lakehead challenges the Brock Badgers before visiting London to test the Mustangs on Sat. Jan. 27.
