Fans at Alumni Hall will be in for a treat this Saturday, as the No. 6 CIS-ranked Western Mustangs (13-1) will face off against the No. 9 McMaster Marauders (11-2) in a battle between the top two teams in the OUA. The Marauders come into the weekend having won eight straight, while the Mustangs have lost just once all season. The Western men are 4-1 since the break, including last Friday night's
3-0 sweep over the visiting Windsor Lancers at Alumni Hall. McMaster, meanwhile, is a perfect 4-0 in 2012, most recently beating Guelph 3-1 last Saturday (Jan. 21). In the first meeting between these two teams this season, the Mustangs earned a 3-1 win in Hamilton back on Oct. 22.
Phil James (3.85) and
Garrett May (3.64) enter the weekend ranked 4th and 8th, respectively, in the OUA in points per game, while May is fourth in kills per game (3.31). Matthew Waite is third in the conference in blocks (44). The OUA leaderboard isn't littered with Marauders, but Saturday's visitors carry a potent offense nonetheless. A well-balanced attack led by Jori Mantha (129.0 points, 101 kills) has proven to be a winning equation thus far for McMaster.
