TORONTO - The Western Mustangs men's and women's swimming teams captured six top finishes this past weekend to help them take second and third place,  respectively, at the Fairweather Division Champsionships.

The OUA divides the 11 OUA swim teams into two divisions, with University of Toronto hosting the division featuring the top five teams from the previous year's OUA championship.

The men's team took second place with 795 points, behind University of Toronto who easily took first with a total of 1086 points. McMaster trailed behind the purple and white for third place (600), followed by Guelph (390) and Ottawa (379).

Oakville, Ontario native Gamal Assaad won first place in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly with a CIS standard time of 53.94. Matthew Loewen took the 200 SC Meter IM with 2:03.84 CIS and finished second in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke.The Men's 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay took second place, behind the Varsity Blues, with a time of 1:33.28. Team members include Brent Waddell, Nathan Lethbridge, Assaad, and Aaron Rode.

The Varsity Blue's women's team also took first place with 1075 points, followed by Guelph with 642. The Mustangs were just behind the Gryphons with 637 points, followed by McMaster (576.5) and Ottawa (350.5).

Fourth-year veteran Jennifer McNaughton took first in the 400 SC Meter IM with 4:51.92, meeting the CIS standard. Teammate Sarah Asselin finished in third with 4:57.73. Paulina Bond, also veteran, impressed with first place in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly at 1:00.78 and took second in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle. Sophie Cieplucha met a CIS standard while taking first in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke at 1:11.17 and the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke with 2:35.08. The women's 400 SC Meter Freestyle Relay, which included Kelly Hotta, Keira Brazeau, Lexi Meklensek, and Charis Huddle finished second behind the Varisty Blues.

Up next, the Mustangs will host the Western Invitational December 5, in the Western Student Recreation Centre.
