BURLINGTON, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the 2015-2016 track and field major awards on Friday afternoon and three Mustangs were recognized for their performances.

http://oua.ca/sports/track/2015-16/releases/20160304kxqsww Third-year social science student-athlete Riley Bell was named OUA Field MVP after jumping to a pair of podium finishes last weekend. Bell captured gold in long jump with a distance of 7.4m and his jump of 14.37m in triple jump placed him second. Bell becomes the first Mustangs student-athlete to win the award since former long jump specialist Taylor Stewart won the award as a rookie in 2012-13.
After establishing herself as the fastest woman in OUA, Mustangs' sprinter Joy Spear Chief-Morris has been named OUA Track MVP after winning three medals in Windsor. Spear Chief-Morris, originally from Lethbridge, AB, captured gold in the 60m event in a blistering time of 7.46. The fourth-year social science student-athlete also won gold as a member of the Western 4x200m relay team.
Spear Chief-Morris claimed a silver medal in the 60m hurdles event, crossing the finish line in 8.47, just 0.02 seconds behind the first place runner. She is the first Mustangs runner to win the award since 2000.
Representing the Mustangs in his first OUA championship, freshman runner Ramzi Abdulahi did not disappoint, leaving the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse with two bronze medals and a fourth place finish to earn Rookie of the Year honours. The first-year engineering major anchored the Mustangs 4x400m relay team that captured bronze and a was a member of Western's 4x200m relay team that finished fourth in a time of 1:30.83. He also ran the fastest 400m split in the meet with a time of 48.4 seconds. Abdulahi, who earned a bronze medal in the 300m event, is the first Mustangs student-athlete to win the award since Jason Kerr won it in 2005-06.
