What to Bring to Camp

Camp Counsellors

At Sport Western we take great pride in our selection of camp counsellors. The Holiday Hoops Basketball Camp staff are University student athletes from the Mustang Men's and Women's teams and many have been a part of our team for numerous years. Head coaches, Brad Campbell (Men's program) and Steph Barrie (Women's program) will be overseeing the Holiday Hoops Camps. Your child’s experience is of great importance to us. We strive to develop and enhance our staff’s skills to ensure that your child’s camp experience is positive and rewarding.

Camp Features

The Mustang Holiday Hoops Camp is for boys and girls of all skill levels between the ages of 7-13. (Campers will be grouped according to age and/or ability). Campers will take part in daily; skill development station work, 3-on-3 games, full court games, shooting games, and basketball related development. Drop-off / Pick-up

For the safety and security of all campers, the drop-off and pick-up area will be located at the main entrance to the Western Student Recreation Centre in the ALUMNI / THOMPSON PARKING LOT, which is accessible via the Western Rd & Lambton Dr intersection. Please visit http://www.uwo.ca/parking/visitormap.pdf to familiarize yourself with the Alumni / Thompson Lot location.

Drop-off: 8:30 - 9:00am
Pick-up: 4:00 - 4:30pm

*During these times, campers will continue to be supervised by Sport Western counsellors. Please ensure that all authorized pick-up persons have valid Photo ID during camp sign-out, as our counsellors are required to check.

Lunch

All campers will participate in a supervising lunch period at the Western Student Recreation Centre (counsellors will be present throughout this period). Campers are required to bring their own lunch, drinks, and snack items to camp, as none of these options are provided.
Food Allergies
* Remember, Sport Western is a Nut-Free Zone! All campers eat in designated areas and we request that campers do not bring any foods that contain nuts (e.g. peanut butter, chocolate bars containing nuts, etc). We are unable control all of the foods and odours that campers may be exposed to at camp, although our counsellors do pay close attention to any allergies/medical concerns identified during the registration process. If your child has any food allergies, we ask that you note this on your child’s registration form. We will make every attempt to accommodate their needs.

Swimming

The Holiday Hoops Basketball Camps includes a half-hour recreational swim (based on operational availability). These swims will only take place on Tues, Dec 21 and Thur, Dec. 23.

Swims take place in the Western Student Recreation Centre pool. Campers are supervised by certified lifeguards, and counsellors who have received pool training to assist those guards. The pool itself is 1.35 meters (4.4 feet) deep in the shallow end and 3.4 meters (11.2 feet) deep in the deep end. If you would prefer that your child wear a life jacket at all times, please indicate so on the registration form. On the first designated swim-day your child will be asked to perform a swimming test. The swimming test requires the child to swim across the width of the shallow-end of the pool (counsellors are present in the water to supervise and assist if necessary). Any camper who does not pass the test will be required to wear a life jacket, regardless of whether he/she has passed any swimming levels. Whether a child passes a swim test is at the sole discretion of the trained lifeguard on duty. When the camper is dropped off on their first day, please confirm lifejacket requirements with his/her counsellor. * Pool side activities will be provided and supervised, should a camper decide not to swim on a given day.

What to Bring to Camp?

All children should wear comfortable clothes, including shorts, T-shirt, and running shoes suitable for physical activity (white-soled running shoes are preferred). A water bottle is recommended to help replenish water loss experienced by physical activity (water bottles can be refilled in the WSRC). Lunch and snack items should also be packed with the camper each day. A bathing suit and towel are needed for the recreational swim - *see Swimming section for details. Please label all items coming to camp (e.g. bathing suit, towel, and lunch bag). Campers are reminded not to bring items of value that are not required at camp (e.g. MP3/iPod, cell phones, and excessive amounts of money).

Camp T-shirts

All campers will received a limited edition Western Mustangs Basketball camp T-shirt.
